The Northern Tornadoes Project
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP), founded at in 2017 with the support of social impact fund , aims to better detect tornado occurrence throughout Canada, improve severe and extreme weather understanding and prediction, mitigate against harm to people and property, and investigate future implications due to climate change. The NTP is one of several projects carried out under the umbrella of the established at Western in 2024. Other CSSL projects are the Northern Hail Project and the new Northern Mesonet Project.
NTP partners include the , , Pelmorex , and . NTP also collaborates with , and several Canadian and international universities.
is an access point for our tornado data (ground, drone, aerial and satellite surveys and related assessments) and statistics, event assessment tools and public reporting.
